Everything here is hanging by a thread.

At Tej Macrame Studio, we create wall hangings, curtains and custom pieces by hand, with love.

The Tej wordmark with a ball of cotton cord, its loose end looping through the letters
A small studio, working slowly

Everything here is tied by hand, one knot at a time, until the string finally does what it's told.

Four knots from finished

  1. Measure and cut

Cords are cut several times longer than the finished drop, because knots use up length fast.

    Step 01
  2. Mount the cords

Each cord is folded and tied onto a wooden dowel or ring with a lark's head knot.

    Step 02
  3. Knot the pattern

Square, spiral and half-hitch knots build the design, row by row, by hand.

    Step 03
  4. Comb and trim

The loose ends are brushed out into fringe and trimmed to shape.
